FAQs
What makes the Agbay Cake Levelers better than the others on the market?
The Agbay Levelers were designed by Tony, a product design engineer to solve all of the problems associated with leveling and splitting cakes by me, the cake decorator. Our Levelers are designed so that all of the accuracy is built right into the tool and Tony believes that if you got a job to do, you need the right tool for the job. We have many features that are not available in any other Levelers on the market today. Our Levelers are an investment in your cake decorating much like your Kitchen Aid or Hobart mixer and will last for years to come. The super sharp Stainless blades that are held under tension, the easy to read scales, wide stable feet and the very important Blade guard are only some of the features that set our Levelers apart from the others.
Can I cut all types of cakes with Agbay Cake Levelers?
Yes, you can cut very light sponge type cakes to rich, dense fruitcakes or mud cakes. You’ll be able to cut through nuts and chocolate chips. Keep in mind to let the blade do the work. You want to keep slicing through the cake while slowly moving the blade into the cake. Keep slicing until the blade is all the way through. You don’t want to push the blade into the cake, especially as you get to the end. Pushing the blade at the end could cause the edge to break off.
How can I keep my cakes from sliding on my work surface?
If your cake tends to move, then you can put it onto a piece of non-slip mat or even use a small dollop of icing. If you place your hand on top of the cake, be sure not to press down too firmly and only cut about halfway through. Then, move your hand to the other side of the cake.
Can I cut frozen cakes with the Levelers?
The simple answer is no. It is best to thaw you cakes before trying to level or split them. The texture of the cake completely changes when frozen causing too much resistance against the blade. You can level and split your cakes before you freeze them or after they are thawed.
In your videos, your cakes don’t move at all. Why is that?
Since I was a young girl, I grew up with my parents preparing their cake pans a certain way. We always spray the bottom of the cake pan and line it with waxed paper. After it cools, I leave the waxed paper on the cake when I wrap the cake in plastic wrap. When I’m ready to cut the cake, the greased waxed paper “sticks” securely to the table, which makes it very easy to cut the cake.
How long will the blades last?
Our blades are made of stainless steel. They are double beveled, scalloped with a razor edge. As long as the blades are protected be the blade guards, they should last you for many years to come. We have original customers from 12 to 15 years ago who are still not only using their Levelers, but they are using their original blades. In the event that your blade becomes damaged somehow, we do have replacement blades available.
Do you ship overseas?
Yes, we ship to all parts of the world. If you need a shipping quote, it is best to email us and let us know where it would be going and which of the Levelers you may want. We also have distributors in several countries now. Please check our list of International Distributors.
Will I have to pay import duty and taxes on my purchase?
Every country has different rules and regulations regarding importing from other countries. It’s a good idea to be familiar with the rules of your own country so that you will not be surprised. We do have some information available on the page for International Distributors.
Can you mark the package as a gift?
No, customs forms are legal documents and it is a criminal offense to lie on those forms. Businesses cannot send gifts to individuals.
I’ll be visiting the US on vacation; can you ship to my hotel?
Yes, it’s something that we do often. The way that we package the Levelers make it easy to take it out of the box and put it right into your checked luggage.
Can I add a third blade to my Leveler?
The simple answer is no. Each blade has its own frame so that it is kept under tension and scales for easy height adjustments. The design of our Levelers does not allow for adding a third blade assembly.
Can I cut the Dummy cakes with the cake blade?
We strongly recommend that you do not try to cut Styrofoam Dummies with the cake blade. It would be very dangerous if you were to slip. We have a blade that is specially designed to cut Styrofoam Dummies found under Upgrades and Add-Ons.
Do you have a warranty?
Yes, we do offer a Limited Lifetime Warranty against any type of defects in materials or workmanship which is included in the instruction manual and also available on this web-site. While we want you to be totally happy with your purchase, we’ve never had one returned to us in 25 years with the exception of prefering a different size. In the event of a return, a 10% restocking fee will be charged providing the Leveler has not been used. If you need a repair, please contact us ahead of time.
